Exploring the Hidden Gem: Yummy Wok

As I entered Yummy Wok, situated on 392 Diederich Blvd. in Russell, the sound of small bells jingling echoed through the air, alerting the kitchen staff of each new customer’s arrival. It was lunch hour on a Saturday, and the restaurant was bustling with activity. Interestingly, I couldn’t help but notice that a significant majority of the customers picking up orders were men.

This observation led me to ponder two questions: Are there an abundance of single men residing in Ashland? Or is it customary for husbands to handle the food pickup duties? I noticed that when couples came in together, they were more inclined to sit in the booths and enjoy their meals in-house.

I was excited to feature Yummy Wok, and it didn’t disappoint. Their extensive Chinese menu boasted an impressive 140 different selections, in addition to their 31 lunch specials priced at $7.95. Each lunch special included a delicious main course, such as roast pork with Chinese vegetables, accompanied by fried rice or white rice, an egg roll or a choice of soup ranging from wonton to hot and sour.

For my meal, I opted for the General Tso’s chicken with a side of chicken fried rice and an egg roll. The portion size was generous and left me more than satisfied. Later on, a friend recommended trying their mouthwatering fried or steamed dumplings, as well as their appetizer boneless barbecue spare ribs.

As I sat at a back booth close to the kitchen, the aroma of chicken and garlic wafted through the air, tantalizing my taste buds. Shrimp lovers would be pleased to know that Yummy Wok offers a variety of shrimp dishes that are sure to delight.

But what is it about Chinese food that captivates so many? Most would agree that it’s the unique combination of flavors, the abundance of aromatic herbs and spices, and the luscious sauces that elevate each dish to sheer heavenly delight.

Yummy Wok has been a successful establishment for over a decade, and although this was my first visit, I have developed a deep appreciation for Chinese culture and cuisine in recent years.

Their opening hours are as follows: Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. I highly recommend indulging in their affordable and delectable lunch menu, and I look forward to experiencing their dinner offerings soon.

As our town blossoms with daffodils, a sure sign of spring, I encourage you to embrace the delightful flavors and welcoming atmosphere that Yummy Wok has to offer.

Bon appétit!
